John Arnesen is a founding partner of Lindsay LLP. He is a civil litigator and has been practicing law in the area of general insurance litigation since 1989 on retainers by professional liability, general liability and property insurers. The focus of his practice has long been on professional errors and omissions, primarily in the defence of dentists, pharmacists and healthcare practitioners. John is also retained privately by professionals requiring assistance with their regulatory bodies. Additionally, he acts in a variety of personal injury matters and commercial disputes and is often retained to prosecute subrogated actions.
John has appeared before all levels of courts in British Columbia and before various tribunals.
John has long volunteered as a judge for the Professional Legal Training Course and has presented to the Continuing Legal Education Society of B.C. on the topic of insurance law.

Michael Jackson is a founding partner of Lindsay LLP, and is an experienced insurance litigation lawyer, having appeared at all levels of court, up to and including the Supreme Court of Canada (London Drugs Ltd. v. Kuehne & Nagel International Ltd. et al). His clients include general property, casualty and professional liability insurers.
Michael was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts at the University of British Columbia in 1975 and a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Victoria in 1981. He was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1982.
Michael has practiced general insurance litigation since 1982, with a particular emphasis on products liability, occupier’s liability, personal/bodily injury (including catastrophic injury and fatal accident claims), motor carrier cargo claims and industrial accident claims (including fires, gas explosions and blasting). He also handles claims relating to construction, mining, trucking, entertainment and sports liability, motor vehicle, highway maintenance, commercial/social host liquor liability and professional liability. In addition, Michael provides advice and legal opinion on insurance coverage to general property, casualty, professional liability and travel accident insurers.
Michael has spoken at various industry events and to various industry groups, including the Canadian Risk and Insurance Management Society, and the Canadian and British Columbia Adjusters Associations. He has also spoken at Continuing Legal Education conferences, and in-house client seminars.
Michael is married with three children and lives in North Vancouver, where he enjoys a wide range of sports, including squash, soccer, skiing, sailing and cycling, as well as music, reading and travel.

Jan Lindsay, QC is one of the founding partners of Lindsay LLP. She has practiced civil litigation since 1981, with an emphasis on defending the interests of her clients in claims arising from accidents and personal injuries.
Jan often serves as lead counsel in matters involving complex and catastrophic damages, such as brain or spinal cord injuries. She has appeared before all levels of British Columbia courts and represents client interests in jury trials, judge-alone trials and at mediation.
Apart from building the firm into a leading insurance boutique, Jan has also led progress in the legal community. She is a past president and life bencher of the Law Society of B.C. and has served on many of its committees, including the Task Force on Retention of Women in the Legal Profession.
Both the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Defence Lawyers have honoured Jan with awards in recognition of her significant contributions to the profession. In 2015, Jan was presented with the Peter S. Hyndman Mentorship Award, which recognizes lawyers who distinguish themselves by mentoring others and which symbolizes collegiality and generosity: principles that have guided Jan throughout her career.
Jan has balanced her career with raising four children. She has been active in the Langley community and contributed her time to many of its civic organizations, including the Langley Children’s Society, which serves families and children with special needs.

Richard B. Lindsay, QC was one of the founding partners of Lindsay LLP. He is one of the most respected insurance defence litigators in Canada, well known for his legal acumen and for sharing his expertise through volunteer contributions that elevate professional excellence across the bar.
Before earning a law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1977, Richard earned a degree in civil engineering from Carleton University and worked as a project engineer with private and government organizations on varied civil engineering projects. He has remained registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia for forty-six years.
Richard’s experience as an engineer influenced the path that he chose in his legal career; he has built expertise in complex insurance claims litigation covering a very wide variety of property, casualty, energy, coverage and products liability matters.
Richard has represented clients at all levels of British Columbia courts and argued landmark cases at the Supreme Court of Canada. He developed an interest in alternative dispute resolution early on; he now acts as a mediator and arbitrator. He has completed the Harvard Law School Mediation Program, trained with the Alternate Dispute Resolution Institute of BC and obtained his fellowship with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
For six years he sat as a Hearing Panel Member for disciplinary and credentials matters for the Law Society of British Columbia. He has acted as mediator, umpire, special referee and arbitrator and appeared before numerous administrative tribunals.
Throughout his career, Richard has led efforts to support the lawyers and the insurance and engineering professionals he works with in maintaining expertise. He has chaired the preeminent insurance law conference held in British Columbia since its inception over 20 years ago. He has also served terms as local president of the International Association of Arson Investigators and National President of Canadian Defence Lawyers and remains involved as a contributor to both organizations.

He continues to instruct on advocacy skills training for lawyers in Canada and for the past several years has served with Lawyers Without Borders instructing on the same skills to those involved in the Kenyan and Tanzanian judicial systems charged with prosecuting elephant and rhino poaching crimes.
Mr. Lindsay has recently decided to decline accepting litigation retainers and focus on expanding his mediation and arbitration practice areas. Given his background and experience his practice will be limited to matters relating to property, energy, engineering and construction matters, insurance coverage, fire losses, professional liability, products liability and multiparty lawsuits.
